At-Risk Male Intervention

Below is a brief outline of our gender-based Prevention and Intervention services for African-American males (and/ or females). This intensive service consists of: administrative planning, staff development, student presentations/ mentoring sessions and curriculum training/ implementation.

Preventing Crime Conf- Men Group

Our approach is 2-prong:

1. INTERVENTION- by working intensely with students who have already
been placed (ISS, suspension, expulsion, alternative schools).

2. PREVENTION- by mentoring groups of teacher-recommended “at-risk”
students at the feeder middle and high schools BEFORE they get referred or placed.

Admin services include:

  • PBIS options (including Restorative Justice)
  • ISS/ Detention program review

Staff development will cover:

  • Building healthy relationships
  • Teaching with Cultural Relevance
  • De-escalating Conflicts
  • Motivating Males
  • Curriculum implementation training


Student Prevention/ Intervention sessions will discuss:

  • Self-Image
  • Manhood
  • Dealing with authority
  • Managing emotions
  • Building resilience
  • Conflict resolution
  • Personal responsibility
  • College, Career and life skills

Expected outcomes include improved:

  1. Classroom behavior
  2. Esteem and Self-Image
  3. Class and Test Grades
  4. Social and emotional skills
  5. Attendance
  6. Enagagement
  7. Conflict management skills
